Today, Year 3 went to Cotteridge Park where we met Emma from Forest School, Liz and Ella who is a geologist. They came to talk to us about the rocks in Cotteridge Park. We found out that the big rocks at the top of the park were actually made in a volcano in Wales nearly 4 hundred million years ago! They travelled to Birmingham on a glacier during the Ice Age.  We couldn’t believe it…we have our very own volcanic rocks right on our doorstep. That’s amazing! We spent some time exploring the rocks and seeing what they were made of using magnifying lenses. We spotted some sparkly bits which we found out could be metal or even a precious element like gold! A bit later on,we made some Ice Age paintings using chalk on the pavement. See if you can spot any Ice Age animals…
