Welcome to the Year 1
Our staff for 2020/21 are:
1H – Mrs Howlett with Teaching Assistant Mrs Hughes.
1P – Miss Peters with Teaching Assistant Miss Ramsay.
In Year 1, our aim is to give the children a smooth transition from EYFS to Key Stage 1. We deliver an exciting and engaging curriculum with many opportunities for the children to develop their skills in reading, writing and numeracy through practical activities and writing opportunities. We follow a structured phonics programme to support the children’s learning across the curriculum. The children will take part in the national phonics screening programme in the Summer Term. We focus on reading and developing a love of reading through storytelling and use Talk for Writing to develop the children’s language.
Every child has the opportunity to participate in Forest School where they learn about the environment. Through the curriculum, the UNICEF project and P4C, the children are able to develop the 4 thinking styles and become confident and independent learners.
